Allahabad: Female ascetics taking part in the maha kumbh here will celebrate womanpower next month at a function where an award will be conferred posthumously on the Delhi braveheart, who went down fighting off injuries sustained during a fatal assault and gang-rape earlier on December 16.
While the braveheart will be honoured in the presence of celebrities from various fields, “a training camp will be held under the aegis of the International Women Power Foundation at the Kumbh Mela ground from January 27,” foundation’s chairperson Anandmayee Puri told reporters here.
“Thousands of young women will be imparted training in yoga, spirituality and self-defence at the camp,” said Puri, while adding that, “Next month, we will hold an International Women Power Conference where bereaved family members of the 23-year-old paramedic who died of injuries suffered during the gang-rape will be presented with an award saluting her courage.”
“The family will also be given an assistance of Rs1 lakh at the conference to be held on February 12,” Puri said.
Stressing the need to empower women through the spread of spiritual education, she said a host of women dignitaries had been invited for the event. These included Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj, Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, businesswoman and social worker Nita Ambani and Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra, Puri said.
