“I really appreciate my Indian heritage. I took Ganesha, Bhagwad Gita & interpretation of Upanishad with me in the space.” -says Sunita Williams
In December 2006, she took a copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the International Space Station. In July 2012, she took a symbol Om and a copy of the Upanishads. In September 2007, Williams visited the Sabarmati Ashram and her ancestral village of Jhulasan.
Sunita Williams, while stationed aboard the International Space Station (ISS), extended her heartfelt wishes last Diwali to those celebrating in the United States and around the world via video message shared from the ISS. saying,
“Greetings from the ISS. I want to extend my warmest wishes for a Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating today at the White House and around the world,”
Her Husband, Michael J. Williams reportedly practices Hinduism and supports his wife’s beliefs.
