Chhath songs echoed through the air of Virginia, USA where over 500 American Hindus gathered at the Potomac River to celebrate Chhath Puja. As part of Hindu nature worship in the land of the Great Spirit – Wakan Tanka, Gitchi Manitou of Native American cultures, Hindus performed Chhath Puja showing gratitude as they participated in ‘Sandhya Arghya,’ offering prayers to the setting sun known as Lord Surya and also to his sister goddess Chhath Maiya (another name for Goddess Usha) for providing life and light to all the living beings.
