Some of the HHR crew had visited Assam during 2008-9 to hear from locals what was going on as Bodo villages in Assam were attacked by Bangladeshi Islamists on 3rd Oct. 2008. An ex-Indian Soldier revealed what took place.
The growing Illegal Bangladeshi occupation was highlighted by different Students Organizations of Assam It was largely opposed by Muslim Organizations and Assam Bandh was called on 13th August by AMSU (Assam Minority Students Union) and on 14th August by MUSA (Muslim Students Union of Assam). But it was ineffective and opposed by the people at Bhalukmari Hatkhola chowk in Udalguri district. In retaliation, the far right islamists attacked the Hindu shopkeepers with traditional arms which was preplanned .
The Hindus and Christian villages were attacked from 2nd October night to 4th Oct night, which was burnt and looted. They were in thousands and with traditional arms and sophisticated weapons as well. When they attacked Sonaripara, Kuptimari and Jhargaon villages on 3rd Oct. night, which were totally burnt down, and an old woman named Kateri Boro of Jhargaon aged 75 year was burnt alive.
