Using terms left and right to describe the political spectrum is outdated and imbibes the narrative of western imperialism. Just because Hindus are targeted by the Left does not automatically make them right-wing. Indeed they have plenty to battle with on the right. Both sides of the political spectrum see Hindus as the other, backward, savage, ignorant heathen masses as taught by the church – from which these political ideologies spring from.
But even back when it had some relevance, the terms left and right were problematic. Now we even have that safe house of left-wing orthodoxy, woke censorship and political correctness, the BBC, doubting it. This may be small but it is significant. In the below clip from series 6 of Peaky Blinders, Tommy Shelby the patriarch of the crime syndicate, himself casts doubt on the dichotomy.
He admits the further left someone goes they eventually meet someone who has gone radical right. The extreme socialist meets the extreme nationalist to create national socialism.
The war with the ‘Hindu’ is really about the conflict with the civilizational Hindu worldview which both see as an alternative threat to their Western worldview of left and right.
