As the Los Angeles fires went on a rampage recently, Swami Yogananda’s The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine survived thanks to a family who came to the rescue just miraculously in time. This is the same Los Angeles that Swami Yogananda called Varanasi/Benares of the West, so maybe as one cycle ends with the fires a new one will start with Dharmic teachings.
The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine Survived the Palisades Fire This place is more than just a peaceful retreat—it’s a testament to resilience.
During the Palisades fire, this sacred sanctuary was saved by the heroic efforts of a dedicated family (BILLY ASAD WITH HIS SON, NICKY AND DAUGHTER, GABRIELLA) who fought to preserve its beauty and tranquillity.
I had the privilege of visiting this hidden gem in August 2024, and the peace and tranquillity I experienced were truly unforgettable.
I hope that restoration efforts will allow this serene oasis to welcome visitors once again, providing a space for reflection and connection with nature.
Founded in 1950 by Paramahansa Yogananda, Lake Shrine welcomes all spiritual paths and offers a tranquil escape to meditate, reflect, and find inspiration.

HOPE AMIDST THE ASHES – MIRACLE IN THE PALISADES – A world-renowned meditation garden, the SRF Lake Shrine (founded by the great yoga master, Paramahansa Yogananda), miraculously survives the devastating Palisades Fire, thanks to the prayers of thousands and the bravery of a few. As we pray for those who’ve lost their homes, we are profoundly grateful for the preservation of this beautiful haven of peace for people of all religions.
